Shopping Tips

Bargaining is an art well-established in Asia, so expect some discount in all but the fixed price shops.

Receipts should be obtained for the goods you buy and, particularly for jewelry and gemstones certificates of guarantee should be requested Insurance cover is advised for items being shipped home rather than carried as luggage. Most shops can arrange this.

Customs do*****entation can be similarly arranged by most shops wherever necessary.

Opening Times

For most Bangkok shops are opened around 10.00 am to around 8.00 pm everyday.

Buddha images positively cannot be brought out of Thailand.

Antiques and genuine works of art require special export certificates in most cases.

Side walk vendors rarely otter genuine goods at fair prices. Beware! Use of Credit Cards Major credit cards are widely accepted in Bangkok and in other major cities in Thailand. In some cases, the shop may try to add a surcharge to the price of the merchandise you are purchasing. This is not an acceptable practice and you should contact the card company involved so that corrective measures can be taken.
